Open for over six years, Ty and her staff are still loving every second of helping brides make their wedding dress vision a reality!
We asked the staff of Twirl Boutique all about their Lexington bridal shop and what’s currently trending in the Kentucky bridal market:
What wedding dress trends are hot right now in your area?
Our brides are really into keeping things traditional with their wedding dresses. However, more and more they’re wanting a little bit of a twist on the traditional gown. For example, our brides love a beautiful, classic gown like Stella York Style 6025 and they are obsessed with it in the peony color. Their vision of a classic wedding dress comes to life in that dress and it has the fun twist to it with the nontraditional color which they are loving. It’s been fun to watch girls get a little adventurous with their dress choices!
What’s the number one thing your brides are asking for?
Our brides are constantly asking for “pretty backs.” Whether that be an illusion back with lovely lace details or an open, low-back gown, a show-stopping back is all the rage with our girls these days and is giving them all the heart-eyes imaginable.
How do you make the bride’s experience memorable?
We adore helping brides find their dream dress. It makes our hearts happy to have a bride stand in our bridal suite surrounded by her friends and family and says “yes!” to the dress she’ll become a wife in. It is a time a bride will always remember. Because we want to preserve this special time, we do our best to only book one to two bridal appointments at a time. Each bride will have a dedicated bridal consultant for their entire appointment and access to our full inventory of gowns in our charming bridal suites. Shopping for your dream gown should be relaxed and fun, not stressful. We strive to bring you joy and allow your wedding vision to come to life!
What’s the most surprising request you’ve ever gotten from a bride?
A bride once told us she wanted “classy cleavage.” What we interpreted and what she meant were two very different ideas, ha! She wanted “the girls” to be well seen with just a little bit of lace covering them up. We’re assuming the lace detail is what she considered the “classy” part. It was a hilarious process but she walked away with the dress of her dreams that had the perfect amount of “classy cleavage” to make her heart happy.
What’s your favorite wedding story from one of your brides?
There are so many to choose from but one of our favorite stories was actually from the wedding of one our own consultants (who was a Stella bride!). Our consultant, Haley, and her husband had a dear friend marry them and it was the first wedding he’d ever officiated. He had done so well the entire time but forgot one minor detail before he pronounced them husband and wife. He was so excited to announce them as “Mr. & Mrs. Thomas” that he completely forgot to tell Haley’s husband to “kiss the bride.” It was hysterical! Everyone just looked at each other with awkward anticipation when finally Haley & her husband whispered to him, “can we kiss yet?” Their friend was mortified but everyone laughed it off. Haley & her hubs sealed it all with a kiss (finally) and proceeded to celebrate and dance the night away as husband and wife! Haley and her dad also surprised everyone with a killer choreographed father-daughter dance later that night. Needless to say, it was a great wedding full of memories none of us will ever forget!
What is the best advice you would give a bride as she is shopping for her wedding gown?
When brides have trouble deciding between dresses there are normally four key questions we ask her:
1. “Do you feel like yourself in the dress?” — It’s important that the bride really feels like herself on her wedding day and not just like a girl in a pretty dress.
2. “Are you wearing the dress or is the dress wearing you?” — What we mean by this is, will people be paying attention to you or your dress? Don’t get a dress that detracts from YOUR beauty. The dress should never outshine the bride!
3. “Are you comfortable?” — This is key. You’re going to spending a lot of time in this dress so it’s important that you not only feel beautiful but you also feel comfortable as well.
4. “Would your fiancé like it?” — More than likely he’ll think you look beautiful in a brown paper sack but some guys do have preferences about what their bride comes down the aisle in. Be mindful to his requests because sometimes they can really help the decision process when it comes to picking the perfect dress.
