The Proposal
My husband is a Police Officer in Northern Alberta. We were leaving for a trip back home to Ontario and he was finishing up his shift so I met him at his work to pick him up on the way to the airport. I was waiting in the parking lot when he asked me to come wait inside. So I locked up the vehicle and began making my way to the side door where I watched him disappear around a corner. When I rounded the corner a few moments later he was down on one knee in his uniform with the ring. I, of course, said YES! and we were able to tell all our friends and family in person that weekend when we arrived back home.
The Dress
I wanted my style to be fun, flirty while still feeling elegant. We picked a country rustic theme and were getting married on a farm so I wanted something that fit all of those things. My dress shopping experience at The Bridal Boutique in Edmonton was unforgettable. The staff was so helpful and kind. I knew I had found the one when I put on Style 6432 and began spinning around and dancing! I even had the seamstress add a custom belt sewn into the waistline to make it more unique and personal to me.
The Wedding Details
Our theme was country rustic chic. It took place on a farm in the Niagara Region. Our colours were purple, green and grey. We made it personal to our story by including our dogs in our ceremony. The men’s boutonnieres were held together by a rifle casing my husband shot from his own rifle. Our favours were a McCafe keurig coffee cup with a donut shaped cookie to reflect our Law Enforcement professions. Our signature cocktails were named after things from Alberta and our unity ceremony was a whiskey blending ceremony where we blended our favourite whiskey into a personalized oak barrel that will age until our first anniversary. We had a limo to take us to the restaurant where we had our first date and we had drinks with our wedding party and took some photos. We had a customized cake topper which included a bride/groom and our two dogs, Holly & Memphis.
It’s hard to choose just one special memory from the day because there were so many things that made our day so special and perfect. I remember leaning over to my husband during dinner and saying, take a look at all these people, they’re all here because of us. The love we felt in that room is indescribable and I’m glad we took a moment to appreciate it all.
