How To: Fight Frizz

I can talk confidently and answer many beauty questions thrown at me; this topic is way too close to my heart (and hair). The dreaded frizzy hair rears its ugly head-yes to take that literally and can ruin ones day in an instant! Enter the ponytail or cap!

Frizz is caused by a lack of moisture or hydration in your hair. Other causes of frizz are genetics, hair damage and of course humidity. It happens when your dry porous, unhealthy hair sucks up moisture in the air then this causes the hair shaft to swell. When your hair is healthy the cuticles stay closed, which means less frizz.

Here are a few ways to stop this bad boy from ruining your big day or any event for that matter. Here’s to healthy frizz free hair!

MOISTURE… MOISTURE… MOISTURE

Deep conditioning for 5 minutes or more will help your hair fight frizz and help your strands fight the moisture on the outside get in! For fine hair, conditioning will be fine, for those with porous, dry or processed locks leave in a deep conditioner daily. Use a deep conditioning mask once or twice weekly for best results.

LESS IS MORE

When drying your hair with a hairdryer, make sure you let your hair dry at least 90% naturally. Air drying will help maintain moisture and wreak less havoc on your hair and less time under the dryer means your strands won’t be as stressed.

TO BRUSH OR NOT TO BRUSH

Brush your hair regularly to distribute your hairs natural oils. This will create a barrier and stop the moisture from leaving the cuticle and also the humidity getting in.

HOLY GRAIL PRODUCTS

Your choice of products for styling is super important if you want shiny sleek locks that sit perfectly. Always keeping in mind that moisture is the key to keep your look polished and not disheveled.  Kevin Murphy’s Detangler is excellent to have on hand to spritz and attend to those fly away strands. Living Proof Restore Mask, Olaplex No.3, Moroccan oil intense hydrating mask are my go to’s for extra intense hydration. Another favorite mask, which is in your cupboard at home is Coconut oil. Slather your hair with this, braid and sleep on a towel overnight. You’ll marvel at the oils ability to create softness, hydration, and shine.

MICROFIBER IS YOUR FRIEND

After you shower use a microfiber towel to blot and dry hair. It creates less friction, therefore, less frizz.

FINE HAIR

For those with fine hair and heavy hydration is not your answer-try using water-based styling products like Living Proofs no frizz before you hit it with a dryer.

MEDIUM TO THICK HAIR

Say bye bye to silicone products of the past. Living Proof also make a no frizz for medium to thick hair. The technology in Living proofs range is far superior to those products containing silicone that attracted oil and dirt.
