Store of the Week: Cheveux Bridal in Tasmania, Australia

Cheveux Bridal opened its doors a little over two years ago. Michelle started out as a beauty therapist and owned a Hair salon, regularly competing in Bridal Hair and Makeup competitions. After buying a few wedding dresses for her models to wear at the competitions, she got the bridal industry bug, and her business expansion began.

We asked Michelle all about the Tasmania bridal shop and what’s currently trending in the southern Australian bridal market:

What wedding dress trends are hot right now in your area?

The Brides are loving beautiful backs and sweetheart necklines.  Lace continues to be very popular as well. The modern princess is very much alive in my area! I also find that brides are beginning to ask for  soft, flowing gowns.

What’s the number one thing your brides are asking for?

Most of my brides ask for a beautiful gowns within their budget.

How do you make the bride’s experience memorable?

I have recently moved to a bigger boutique space, and when designing it I wanted to give  brides-to-be the ultimate bridal experience. The decor of the boutique is French Provincial with 2 chaise lounges.  All of our fitting suites  are French Provincial in decor as well – two large fitting rooms with white carpet, black velvet curtains, black chandeliers, and mirrors surrounded by decorative mouldings on every wall.  The bride can view the wedding gown from every angle her without having to go out into a common area. In the entryway – and the first thing that the brides see –   is a vast selection of wedding dresses surrounding a large bohemian-style crystal chandelier. Bridal Consultants are extensively trained in product knowledge, body shapes, complexions, and which wedding dresses will compliment different body features.  We strive to highlight the bride-to-be’s best assets and camouflage what they would like to hide. Customer service skills are very important at Cheveux Bridal. When the Brides pick up their wedding gowns they are given a bottle of champagne, truffles and a voucher toward the dry cleaning of their wedding gown.  We like to take care of them from the first moment they walk in until even after the wedding!

What’s the most surprising request you’ve ever gotten from a bride?

One of my brides wanted to have multi-colored flowers sewn all over the wedding gown.

What’s your favorite wedding story from one of your brides?

I think mine is my favorite wedding story! I knew my husband 6 weeks from the day we met until the day we were married and we have now been happily married for 34 years. I want all my brides to have long happy marriages!

What is the best advice you would give a bride as she is shopping for her wedding gown?

The best advice I can give a bride when shopping for her gown is do not take an entourage with you when choosing your wedding gown. Just take 1 or 2 people who know what you like. Time and time again we see the Brides-to-be take along so many people, and the more opinions given, the more confused the Bride gets. Choose what you like, what makes you feel beautiful, and what you want to wear on your wedding day.
