Store of the Week: K & B Bridals

We asked the ladies of K&B Bridals all about their Bel Air bridal shop and what’s currently trending in the Maryland bridal market:

What wedding dress trends are hot right now in your area?
Dresses with head-turning, dramatic backs are a big trend in our area right now. A lot of our brides have been looking for dresses that have backs that are low cut and open, or that have illusion backs with amazing lace details. Another trend in our area is customizable dresses. Our brides love dresses that have the option to be customized with detachable straps, by adding or removing beading, by changing the color, or by changing the length of the dress train.

What’s the number one thing your brides are asking for?
The number one thing our brides are asking for when they come to find their dress is to feel absolutely beautiful on their wedding day. They want a dress that not only accentuates their favorite parts of their body, but also flatters any part of the body that they may feel insecure about.

How do you make the bride’s experience memorable?
We make our brides’ experiences memorable with our exceptional customer service and the bridal shop’s fun atmosphere. A big part of the reason why brides remember us is because of the fact we are partnered with five other wedding-related businesses. From accessory advice to alterations advice, our brides love how involved everyone is in their dress shopping experience. It makes our brides feel special and they appreciate that we are all there for them. Since we are an all-inclusive bridal shop, our brides will also come back here to get their bridesmaid dresses, pick out tuxes, and do alterations. This allows us to really develop a relationship with them over the course of their wedding-planning process.

What’s the most surprising request you’ve ever gotten from a bride?
I wouldn’t say I have ever gotten a completely surprising request from a bride, but I did have a bride who was looking for a specific dress that had bold splashes of color on the skirt of the dress and we have also had brides that were looking for a way to dye their dress blue as their “something blue.”

What’s your favorite wedding story from one of your brides?
One of my favorite stories is a bride who showed up in the middle of the week and walked into our boutique in tears. When I asked what was wrong, she said she had been everywhere trying to find a dress and was convinced she wasn’t going to have one to wear to her wedding. After explaining everything she wanted, we picked out a few dresses. I knew she was still going to be unhappy, but went with it as she was only willing to try those on. Sure enough, after three dresses and her being unhappy, I asked if I could make some suggestions. Going to the dresses i knew would be great, I started with asking if we could try a few on just to narrow it down to some small details like the neckline. She hated the dress, but was willing to try it on just to see if the neckline would work. Low and behold, happy tears started streaming down as soon as she saw herself in her dress! She LOVED it on herself. AFter a few other tries, we were back to the dress and she said yes. We then worked our way through bridesmaids and even custom-made a dress she wanted for her flower girl. We helped the guys with all of their tuxes, and on her wedding day we were all invited to share in their special day and she had us out to the wedding. She still stays in touch with us and sends all of her friends. We even had the pleasure of having her son in his tuxedo for prom this year! Love them!

What is the best advice you would give a bride as she is shopping for her wedding gown?
The best advice we would give to a bride is to keep an open mind during her bridal appointment. It’s so important to be flexible and be open to trying on different styles of dresses. A lot of brides are surprised by which styles they like the best on themselves, and often they will choose a different style than what they were originally looking for. When you find “the one” be open to saying yes!
