Proving that it is possible to experience love at first sight with a dress, Real Bride, Stephanie, could not have looked more beautiful in her Stella York lace wedding dress. Photographer, Michelle Harkness, was able to capture the glowing bride, her handsome groom, and their spectacular rustic, vintage wedding day perfectly.
From the bride: I ordered my first wedding dress in May 2014, and instantly knew it wasn’t the right dress for me, but I decided to stick it out and convince myself it was the right choice. I shopped around for a bit, but couldn’t find anything that fit with what I thought my wedding dress should look like. Towards the end of 2014, I had convinced myself to stick with what I originally purchased, and then I stumbled upon this Stella York wedding dress on Pinterest. It was actually love at first sight. I hadn’t had that with a wedding dress before! I tracked down what the label was and called the only stockist in SA (Jenny and Gerry’s). They didn’t have that particular dress, but called me back 10 minutes later to say they could get a loaner dress from WA the next day for me to try on. The next night I went in, tried it on and loved it! I called them the next day and put down my deposit. The decision to switch dresses was so worth it, and I get compliments all the time saying how gorgeous my dress was (not the bride, the dress!!!). I love that this super-hard decision paid off and I felt like a million bucks! I also loved that I got to wear it again when we had our second wedding in NZ with my family!
We did so much DIY for our wedding. It was a real rustic, vintage theme. 100 metres of doily bunting made by my mum and I. Hand-made marquee lights (cereal boxes and paper mache). We made our own photobooth. A family friend made our amazing cake. We also rented vintage couches and other decor. Everything came together from the dress to the rustic vintage theme – it was perfect!
