With the many ups and downs that come with being a ‘pandemic bride,’ sometimes it’s hard to focus on the meaning behind your wedding. But not for newly weds Brooke and Nolan. They stayed true to themselves and let us tell you- there truly is beauty in simplicity. Brooke went with a vintage satin wedding gown, perfect for her intimate, romantic day. Style 6718 from Stella York was the perfect pick as it’s on trend pockets match our bride’s laid back personality! We couldn’t be happier for this beautiful couple; read on for all the details of their special day.
Tell us about your proposal…
Both of us attended The Ohio State University and our junior year of college Nolan asked me to be his girlfriend at Mirror Lake on campus. Fast forward about 5 years later, I went out to lunch with my friend and she had dropped me off on campus (unexpectedly) by Mirror Lake and said I had to get out and walk towards the lake. Nolan was standing there with roses and our dog (of course) and got down on one knee. It was the most special moment. Our friends and family were waiting in a parking lot around the corner to celebrate with us!
What was your vision going into the dress shopping experience?
I love the classic bridal look. Nothing too fancy or over the top, beautiful yet simple. Twirl Bridal was the first and only bridal shop I ended up going to with my mom for wedding dress shopping. I started by telling the stylist what my vision was, and she brought up what seemed to be like 15 dresses. I tried on the first two and while I liked them, I did not feel like a bride. My dress was the third dress I tried on, and as soon as I put it on I felt like a bride. My mom and the stylist could see it all over my face at how perfect this dress was for me. We went ahead and tried on a few more dresses but I kept going back to this dress every time. I knew that dress was the one. We walked out of Twirl that day and I did not go to any other dress shops. I’m so appreciative of Twirl and my stylist for helping make my dress choice the best experience ever! I loved how classic my wedding dress was and I truly felt like a bride in the dress! The pockets were an added bonus as well!!
Did you adjust your colors or decor when you changed your wedding date?
Our wedding was classic yet simple with lots of neutral colors. My bridesmaids wore dove grey dresses and the groomsmen were in navy blue suits with blush pink ties. Our ceremony was in a garden, so I did not want to take away from the beauty of the garden. I ended up keeping the colors I had chosen when we initially planned our wedding for June. I felt the color scheme still worked perfectly with October colors! The hydrangea bushes in the garden turned a very blush pink color that matched my florals perfectly! Our ceremony was in the Historic Barn right next to the garden at Jorgensen Farms. It’s a beautiful rustic barn with string lights inside and felt very ‘us.’ It has so much to offer and is beautiful standing on it’s own without any decor. Nolan and I are much more laid back and love a more simplistic approach to decor. We wanted our friends and family there and for all of them to have the best time celebrating the two of us and our marriage. Our wedding was just that!
What were some of the sweet memories from your intimate wedding?
Our wedding was a much smaller number than what we had dreamed of, but we would not have changed one thing about our day. It was perfect. We celebrated the day with our closest friends and family. Some of our special memories are having our dog be our flower pup, my first look with my father, and just celebrating the whole evening with my new husband! I was not expecting my father to tear up as much as he did and it was a truly special moment between the two of us that I will cherish forever.
