Real Martina Liana bride Kimberly didn’t let a little rain (literally and figuratively) stop her from having the destination wedding of her dreams! She stunned in a crepe Martina Liana gown, and every detail of her wedding day was exactly as it should be. Cheers to the happy couple!

From the bride: Eric and I met one random Saturday night in Austin on March 27, 2011. I was from Houston and he was from Oklahoma, but it only took that serendipitous meeting and we both knew we wanted to be together. We did long distance for nine months but it was almost five months in that Eric and I took a vacation together to Cancun, Mexico. One night on the beach, he surprised me with a ring he bought and made me two promises: The first promise was that after he completed his masters at OSU, he would move to Houston and the second promise he made me was that he would marry me. The first promise came to fruition December 2011 when he took a job offer with OXY, and five years after that we were again on the beach for our wedding this past August in Cabo, Mexico where his second promise came true. It only made sense that we would have a destination wedding since so much of our favorite memories and experiences together have been on our vacations to various different tropical locations throughout the years.

Long story short, 30 days up to our wedding day I was notified I had lost both my wedding planner and florist. All the planning and work we had done over the phone, traveling, and emails had evaporated in two emails. It was honestly one of the most stressful and difficult times of my life when it should have been one of the happiest. Because I had to fly to Cabo two days after this news, I also ended up losing my summer internship. On top of that, I had to order fake flowers and 20 vases off of amazon, and table linens so that I would actually have decorations and “flowers” at my wedding. Once the week came that we were to get married, we had 20 suitcases filled with wedding supplies but everything made it and thankfully nothing broke or was ruined. It was an insane thirty days up to this point, but we did it and everything turned out better than expected. To make up for their mistake, the resort was incredible to us and shut down their two best restaurants on the property for our rehearsal dinner and reception (which is against resort policy for weddings), they made sure all of my linens, vases, and flowers were set up exactly the way we had asked, and at the end of our wedding night repacked everything back into the 20 suitcases. I cannot tell you how nice it was to not have to worry or lift a finger for my wedding day after all the sleepless nights, cry sessions on my part, and extremely tough days Eric and I had endured so close to our “I Do’s.” Everyone came to Eric and I’s rescue so that we could enjoy this important day in our lives. I would love to share with future brides that if everything seems like it is falling apart, just do the very best you can with what is in your control and with what you have because your wedding day will be perfect regardless, and in my case better than I originally planned. Just keep your mind focused on the most important thing of all: getting to marry and spend the rest of your days with the love of your life.

The morning of our wedding was one of the rainiest days the resort had experienced all year. Our wedding venue and reception location was completely rained out and all Eric and I could do at this point was laugh. All we cared about by now was how excited we were that this day had actually arrived, and we could not wait to marry each other. This is what I love about our love so much because we have truly been through it all as a couple, and if anything our wedding experience made us stronger and more obsessed with each other throughout the years.
But because the resort staff was all hands on deck for our wedding weekend, they had already prepared for back up plans B and C in case plan A did not work out. And let me tell you, the rain was definitely a God thing because our wedding was more perfect than it would have been had the rain not changed our plans and I am so grateful that we chose Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf and Spa Resort to have our destination wedding at because they, along with our family and wedding parties, truly came through for us and ended up saving our wedding. We never felt more loved or cared for in all our lives during a time when we truly needed it the most.
