College sweethearts turned husband and wife – it doesn’t get any better than that! Real bride Kim married groom Shane in what she describes as a farmhouse glamour theme – complete with a gorgeous all lace wedding dress by designer Martina Liana.
The Proposal
My husband and I met his senior year where he was playing baseball at Kansas State University. His senior year he got drafted by the Oakland A’s and our relationship went to long-distance. He played in the minors for a couple of years up until he got an injury. After surgery, Shane got a phone call from the head baseball coach at Kansas State offering him a coaching job; he had always known the end goal was to become a coach and even though it was sooner than expected, he accepted the job.
We bought a house together here in Manhattan and as stressful as that time was, my birthday was coming up. We had plans to go out to dinner to one of my favorite restaurants. My husband and I left our house and then he got a call from the equipment manager saying that he couldn’t get the outfield lights to turn off, so we headed to the baseball stadium to help (I was the least bit pleased about this, I was starving LOL) so he parks near the outfield and we start walking onto the field. We were about to walk right over the first base (the position he played) when he got down on one knee and said, “Kimberly Rae, I knew from the moment I met you that you were the one for me. Will you marry me?” I said yes, and then there was a flash. He had hired a photographer that was capturing our special moment in one of the dugouts. I then heard applause with a few shrieks and looked up, he had our parents hiding out in one of the suites where they got to witness the whole thing! We all went to dinner and had such a great night! Not to mention my ring, his number was 15 so I have seven diamonds on each side of my wedding band and the 15th diamond is the main diamond, an oval, and absolutely perfect!
Finding the Perfect Martina Liana Wedding Dress
I wanted to look simple yet detailed. I knew I didn’t want a big ballgown; that’s not my style. I wanted something to show off my curves. My sister-in-law had just gotten a job working at Belle Vogue Bridal in Kansas City and we originally went there to look at bridesmaid dresses and that’s when I saw my Martina Liana wedding dress – Style 905 – on the mannequin and I HAD to try it on. The moment I did I knew that was the dress for me!
The Wedding Details
My theme was farmhouse glamour. We got married in a meadow and I just wanted my flowers to really stand out and our reception was in a barn! My aunt is a florist in Minnesota and drove all the way to Kansas with a car filled with flowers and did an outstanding job (she’s the best florist, ever!) I’m truly blessed to have her. Also, between my husband and I have three young nephews so I had baseball uniforms designed for them to wear on our special day instead of suites. My colors were golds/rose golds and mauve pink. I loved it!
My most special memory of that day is my dad’s face when he saw me for the first time! I didn’t think he got emotional until after I saw the pictures from that day, so special.
