The words modern and elegant come to mind after seeing Hannah and Kyle’s South African wedding. After an uber-romantic Cape Town proposal and a dress shopping experience of a lifetime, Hannah walked down the aisle in a stunningly simple and modern crepe wedding dress by designer Martina Liana. Filled with white floral accents and custom gin cocktails, this gorgeous couple’s wedding is one we won’t soon forget.
The Proposal
Kyle proposed to me in February 2018, on the top of table mountain in Cape Town after a long sweaty walk to the top. It was a very hot day and we had previously done the walk a few years earlier so this is quite a special place for us. Once we got to the top, Kyle took me to the edge to sit down for a minute and take in the view. Then to my surprise, he popped the question! It was such a fabulous day as our parents had taken the cable kart up to the top and were waiting to celebrate with bubbles. Later that evening we went off to ‘Tintswalo Atlantic’ for dinner which was beautiful.
Finding the Perfect Martina Liana Wedding Dress
I knew I wanted to look like me and didn’t want to overdo anything. My idea was to create an elegant, effortless and relaxed look for the day. I chose to wear very natural makeup and to wear my hair up with pearl clips to add detail. I added a special touch by wearing my mum’s vail which was a two-tier veil with embroidered leaves on it. I wanted to find a timeless dress, one where I would look back in years to come and still love it!
I really enjoyed dress shopping at Angelica Bridal, I loved the fact that it is a small boutique and the ladies made me feel very relaxed. My mum had come with me that day and the second I put that dress on I knew I had found the dress for me, it really is so true what they say, when you know you know. My dress was exactly as I had imagined- it was simple and elegant, high at the front and low at the back with button detailing all the way to the floor. I didn’t want anything fussy or embellished and Style 1099 was exactly what I wanted. I just could not wait to wear it!
The Wedding Details
We wanted the venue to be dressed to feel relaxed yet very elegant. We had all the tables decorated with white flowers and greenery adding touches of peach here and there. Kyle and I both love the beach and swimming in the sea so we created a setting that represented this by using shells to decorate the tables and scattering candles everywhere to add a romantic touch. The venue created a dreamlike setting for us which I will always remember.
Guests played lawn games while we had our photographs taken and drank from the range of gins at the gin bar. Each Gin was named after us, we had The Dawson, The Mitchell, The Hannah, and The Kyle. We also had a lady mannequin made of flowers as a nod to my passion for style and the dance floor was full all night!
There were lots of very special moments that really stood out for me on our wedding day. One of which was my good friend Si singing to me as I walked down the aisle, a song he wrote that Kyle and me both love. The speeches were another part of the day that I will never forget, my dad, Kyle and his brother all gave such fab speeches that made everyone both laugh and cry.
