Long-distance planning couldn’t even stop Kim and her husband, Ryan, from having the wedding day of their dreams. Thanks to a little help from friends and family (and an amazing Essense of Australia gown) their day was picture-perfect. Congrats, Kim and Ryan!
From the bride: My biggest challenge in planning our wedding was the distance. Both my husband and I are from the midwest, but have been living in Boston for the past four years. We both knew that we would be married in Chicago, but I feared it would be difficult to plan the details of our day so many miles away. Fortunately, my family and bridesmaids stood-in for me whenever I needed, which was amazing! My best piece of advice to a bride planning from long-distance…you can do it!! Allow anyone to help who is willing, especially those who you trust to be your eyes and ears when you are not present. I always told myself that I never wanted to plan a wedding while living out of town, as I did not want to miss out on the special moments in the planning process.
I promise that you will make the same memories, but they will be unique to your experience. I may not have been able to approve every tuxedo for each groomsman, or spend endless hours combing through Pinterest with my best friends, but we shared so many wonderful experiences together that I would not trade for anything.
The best part of my wedding day had to be the first look my fiance Ryan and I shared before the ceremony. While we were planning for the wedding, I was incredibly lucky to have a groom who wanted to help as much as he could. Anytime I would ask what he envisioned for my dress he would always say “something big and pretty, like a princess.” Keeping the details about my dress a secret for almost a year was incredibly hard!! When the moment finally came for our first look, my heart was beating so fast. I’m surprised I could even hold my flowers as I was shaking so hard walking up to my future husband. The moment we looked at each other, the tears were flowing! I will never forget the look on his face. It was everything a girl dreams about (and more!). When I asked him what he thought about the dress all he could say was “it’s perfect. It’s exactly what I pictured you would wear”. Having that special moment between the two of us was truly magical, and something I will always cherish.
