Limelight Occasions opened in October 2008 as a family owned bridal shop in West Yorkshire, England. After wedding dress shopping in 2007, Haley – one of the shop owners – felt that the shops she visited were small and the experience overall was underwhelming. This experience led to the epiphany that there was a wonderful opportunity to be had in opening a bridal store that offered an experience above and beyond what Haley encountered while shopping for her gown. Â The ultimate goal was to have a spacious building for the bridal boutique to give brides a real sense of the occasion when searching for their dream wedding dress. Their shop is located in a remodeled chapel – how romantic is that?
We asked the lovely ladies at Limelight Occasions all about their bridal shop and what’s currently trending in the West Yorkshire bridal market:
What wedding dress trends are hot right now in your area?
The trends that are hot here right now are 1920’s vintage, straps, low backs and lightweight dresses that are easy to wear for destination weddings. Our brides also love the soft colour options for wedding dresses especially oyster, almond, blush and harvest. Tea length is also a growing trend.
What’s the number one thing your brides are asking for?
The number one thing our brides ask for is slim fitting gowns with strap, but they often change direction during the appointment and fall for a completely different style!
How do you make the bride’s experience memorable?
The boutique is beautiful, it is full of light and has a long elegant catwalk and crystal chandeliers. When our clients step out of the dressing room, they get a real sense of what it will feel like to walk down the aisle on their wedding day. In addition to the elegant atmosphere, our consults love their job. They enjoy styling our clients and really tune in to the smallest detail which will help a bride to find a dress that is perfect for her.
What’s the most surprising request you’ve ever gotten from a bride?
We were surprised recently when a client asked if she and her bridesmaids could get ready at our boutique on the morning of her wedding and if the wedding car could pick her up and take her to the church from Limelight. She is even bringing her photographer. We of course agreed and are really excited to be so much a part of her special day.
What’s your favorite wedding story from one of your brides?
We have so many lovely wedding stories – all very diverse.  Limelight’s first bride was 65 years old and marrying for the first time. Another told us she was using the money from her divorce settlement to pay for her new wedding dress and a bride just this past Saturday told us she is walking down the aisle to the sound of her 12 year old daughter singing Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years!
What is the best advice you would give a bride as she is shopping for her wedding gown?
The best advice we can give is to find a bridal label with a range of dress styles you really love. Finding the perfect wedding dress is often a process of elimination. To help you find the best shape for your body with a look that reflects your personality, work with a bridal boutique that has a good reputation for expert styling and fitting. Take with you only one or two people who know you really well. Be honest with your stylist, she is there to help you. Relax and enjoy the experience!
