Store of the Week: Alexandra's Boutique

We asked the staff of Alexandra’s Boutique all about their Fall River bridal shop and what’s currently trending in the Massachusetts bridal market:

What wedding dress trends are hot right now in your area?
The hot trends are definitely low backs and lace. Lots of vintage looking wedding dresses. Brides are picking venues that are very different like barns and dressing up the barns to look like a beautiful venue. I also see a resurgence of more satin fitted dresses and definitely ball skirts.

What’s the number one thing your brides are asking for?
Long sleeves. They all want to be different and the idea is very interesting. What I find is that when they try on the long sleeve, they don’t necessarily see themselves wearing this type of wedding dress.

How do you make the bride’s experience memorable?
We assign a bridal consultant to each bride and she has 2 hours to try as many dresses as she likes. We have a private bridal suite for each bride that makes it a private experience. I always say to all my brides the day of the wedding is what all the planning is for, but the journey there such be equally be as enjoyable and memorable. We try to give them a memorable experience that they will treasure for the rest of their lives. We talk to her to help her select the styles that will be the most flattering and beautiful as they described themselves being on their wedding day.

What’s the most surprising request you’ve ever gotten from a bride?
We get crazy requests all the time. Just today a bride asked if we can make a lace mermaid dress twist to the side. So that it pulled sideways. That would be an impossible thing to do. In alterations it is always interesting. We certainly can manipulate fabric but some things are physically impossible. How about a Lime green sash with a Lime green fascinator and royal blue shoes.

What’s your favorite wedding story from one of your brides?
One of my favorite heart wrenching stories is when one of our brides got diagnosed with breast cancer after she bought and planned her wedding. She was so determined to get better and wear her wedding dress on her wedding day and she did. It was such tough ride for her with the chemo and gaining and losing weight. She was cured of her cancer and is in remission. She looking amazing on her wedding date.

What is the best advice you would give a bride as she is shopping for her wedding gown?
The best advice I would give is to come with only 2 most important people in your life to help you make your decision. When we have brides that come with a large group of people it confuses the bride and she walks away not having the experience that she could have. We are not here to pick her dress. We are here to guide her into the direction to pick the right dress. Less opinions, the better. Also come in with a realistic budget for a dress. Do your research and make sure you can afford what you are requesting to see. Never try on a dress that you do not have the budget for. It is disastrous to fall in love with a dress and not be able to buy it.
