The Proposal

It was the 29th of December, 2017. It was the day before one of my best friend’s wedding and I was on my way home from the rehearsal dinner. I called Adam when I was leaving to let him know that I was heading to my mom’s house. He asked what I wanted from Starbucks because he was going to get a drink for himself and my mom (this is when my suspicions started as it isn’t every day that he just hangs out with my mom). I told him my drink order because I am never one to say no to coffee, even at 9 pm.

I got to my moms and she had just moved into this house 2 months prior. There was a huge snowstorm going on and she said that she really wanted to go across the street to the park where there is a large hill that families will use for sledding in the colder months and take some winter photos of the house. This is something that my mom would say that she wanted to do but since I was already suspicious I figured there was an alternative motive behind her sudden urge for photos of the house. Either way, we all decided to go across the street and head up the large hill.

This is when it all fell into place. We made it to the top of the hill and there were candles lit and mom instantly said that she wanted to get a cute winter picture of Adam and me on the hill. We took a few photos and then Adam started telling me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He dropped onto one knee and I said YES as the few families that were still sledding at 10 pm started clapping and congratulating us. It was a dream.

Finding the Perfect Stella York Wedding Dress

Like every bride, I wanted to feel beautiful and confident. I also wanted to feel like myself. I wanted something that I could look back on in 20 years and still be in love with. When I went dress shopping I had a few ideas in my head (this is probably what led to picking out 2 dresses). I loved the simple and classic dresses but I also loved a good fit and flare with some sparkle. Like a good chunk of brides out there I was a fan of the thin straps and low back as well. The Wedding Studio in Carmel, Indiana was amazing (so amazing that I now work there on Saturdays just because I loved the people and my experience so much). I worked with Andrea and she made me feel so confident and helped me every step of the way. I went in being open to trying any style but didn’t think I would like ballgowns on my body type… boy was I wrong.

I put on Stella York Style 6758 and was smitten, I walked out to show the group this dress and the tears started flowing. Everyone loved it and my mom was swooning. I did always picture myself in a fit and flare and wasn’t sure I was ready to let go of that idea so once I put on Stella York Style 6767 it was a match made in heaven. Andrea knew our budget and since we were there during a Stella York Trunk Show she filled me on the fun fact that I could get BOTH and still be under the budget. I quickly pulled my mom into the dressing room with my fingers crossed and left that day a VERY happy bride! Also, did I mention that we all kept the secret of having 2 dresses because after the ceremony I surprised Adam with the second dress!

The wedding details

Our theme was romantic and classic. The men were in black suits, girls in a dusty mauve, our flowers were whimsical, nothing too stiff. We had gold accents and frosted acrylic signs. Our venue, Laurel Hall was the perfect backdrop to our day. This venue didn’t need much of anything to be perfect which made our job easy.

Something that we did that was a personal touch to our love story was the ring that I got custom made for my husband. His father passed away the year before we met. I knew that I wanted to incorporate him in a very special way. I spoke with Adam’s mom pretty soon after we got engaged and asked if she still had his father’s wedding band. She said yes and I told her my plan and asked if she would be okay with it. She was and I couldn’t be happier with the result. I had the one-of-a-kind craftsmen at Reis-Nichols Jewelers place his dad’s ring inside of the ring that we purchased for Adam and had his name engraved on the inside in his father’s handwriting. The moment I got to share this ring and its story with Adam is a moment that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

One of my favorite moments from our wedding day was having a first look with my dad. I always knew this moment would be special to me. I also daydreamed about the photos of me in Style 6758 and my dad in his dress blues. Classic and timeless was the perfect description. We both cried and I could feel the love that this moment brought to the both of us. I will never forget it.

Another special memory was Adam and I’s first dance. We started our first dance with the song Tuesdays by Jake Scott, a song that always made me think of Adam. Little did everyone else know that halfway through the song we were ditching that song and breaking out into a choreographed dance to Bum Bum Tam Tam. I don’t know that we could have had a better time doing it together and everyone loved it. It brought everyone onto the dance floor and we had the best time sharing that fun moment with our friends and family.
