For their travel inspired nuptials, bride Erica and groom Evan took their guests on a journey through their love story by incorporating elements of places they’ve visited into their DIY decor. Erica’s all-over lace wedding gown from designer Stella York was a perfect nod to her vintage style. Congrats, you two!
From the bride: Evan and I truly tried to create a day that represented who we are as a couple. Our wedding was full of DIY details and personal touches. Evan and I met while serving in the Peace Corps in Southern Africa and we both have a passion for traveling. Instead of using table numbers, our guests found their place cards at a table adorned with a sign that said, “Where in the world are you sitting?” The tables were all cities around the world that Evan and I have visited together with photographs of us in that location. Â Atop the tables, were small pieces of vintage map paper and markers. Guests were asked to write marriage advice on the sheets and create paper airplanes to be thrown throughout the night to extend our travel theme.
Evan and I also love to embrace our inner child. I am a Kindergarten teacher and Evan has always been an avid fan of comics. Evan and his groomsmen wore Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle socks and our wedding cake was topped with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and a pink Power Ranger. We also had a life-size cutout of our small, lovable puppy, Elvis, beside our sweetheart table.
Our day was filled with incredible moments but the most special memory from our wedding was right before we were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Evan and Erica Hahn. I remember being filled with an overwhelming amount of excitement and love. I looked into Evan’s eyes and we were both giddy with enthusiasm. We were squeezing each other’s hands so tightly and both had huge smiles. Even before we were pronounced husband and wife, Evan leaned in to kiss me. Our officiant (a close friend) and I both said, “No, not yet!” Evan and I laughed along with our family and friends as we anxiously awaited to be officially married. When we were finally able to kiss, I couldn’t stop smiling. It was a truly incredible moment that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
It was a perfect day that truly represented our relationship and the adventure, fun, and love that we have always shared.
