Gorgeous bride Megan stunned at her St. Augustine, Florida, wedding to groom Eric. The bride chose to wear an incredibly detailed, hand-beaded wedding dress by Australian designer Martina Liana. After a very cute proposal, the couple chose to wed in front of family and friends at the same church where her aunt was married. How romantic!Â
The Proposal
The proposal was very relaxed. We went out for pizza and a movie. When we got home, my dog Barkley was wearing a different collar with different tags. This is significant because Eric and I became close when Barkley got out of my yard four years ago and he was gone for three days. During those three days, Eric did not leave my side. We went door to door, drove through every neighborhood, visiting every business in the area, in order to bring Barkley back. On the third night- about 10 o’clock, we had just run out of flyers… and I received a text that someone had Barks and was very close to where we were at that time. Needless to say – it was the happiest of endings. But, it always bothered me that the people that found him put a different collar on him as if they were claiming him.
Fast forward 3 years, I came home and Barkley was wearing a different collar- I immediately went into protective mode and thought someone had been in my house. Eric told me to check what the collar said and as I read it, I was still in protective mode and was NOT at all expecting Eric to be down on one knee with a ring when I turned around. So many emotions!
Finding the perfect Martina Liana wedding dress
My vision changed a little bit throughout the process. But there were definitely some constants. I always knew that this dress, Style 1060, was the exact one I had imagined (even though it didn’t exist to me until I put it on). I feel like this dress waited all these years to be made at the exact time I went for my first dress shop visit. There was nothing calculated about this visit – I just wanted to check out some different styles by myself. And this amazing dress was the second one I put on. I tried on a few others afterward, just to be sure, and nothing even came close!
The wedding details
The wedding was amazing. The ceremony was in the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine, the reception was right next door at the Treasury on the Plaza, and our hotel was right across the street at the Casa Monica, in Saint Augustine Florida. My mission was to find the most beautiful catholic church that was in a visitor-friendly area. By that I mean, having a great walk-ability in town, the church being close to the reception ( I didn’t want our guests having to take transportation from hotel to church to reception), Saint Augustine just made so much sense!
Walking down the aisle was the most amazing two minutes of my life. My brothers walked me down the first 100 yards or so and my dad met them halfway to walk me to the alter. My dad and his brother walked their sister (my aunt) down the aisle at this same Cathedral (now a Basilica ) 41 years ago. So, it was special that we could kind of recreate those moments for my family. Maybe we can make that a family tradition.
