If there was one word to describe Alexis and Ryan’s love story it would be magical. The way Ryan proposed simplistically and romantically? Magical. The story of Alexis finding her dream dress? Magical. The way Alexis looked walking down the aisle in Martina Liana Style 1048? Magical. Their Valentines brunch themed wedding? Magical. Read along to experience the magic for yourself.
What was your most special memory from the day?
We had a blissful brunch wedding on Valentine’s Day. There are so many special moments that stuck out to me. The sunlight drenching us, my husband hugging my mom (who is my entire family), laughing the whole day with our intimate gathering of 50, everyone leaving as friends, my husband chasing the kids around the open field where the ceremony took place, and even the kids grabbing the soft flower petals and dumping them on me. It was truly a magical day filled with so many happy tears and lasting impressions.

We had been hunting for the perfect house for over a year and finally found it in the summer of 2020. We were closing on the house and leaving for the weekend to go back home to Indiana to spend the 4th of July with our families. Ryan insisted that we needed to run over to the house right before we had to catch our flight. We walked into the backyard, taking in the peace and serenity that would soon be our backyard. We were standing by the fountain, staring at the huge olive trees when Ryan gave me a hug and said “You know, I’ve been looking for this my entire life.” I turned, smiling and thinking the same thing. He slowly got down on one knee, and popped the question in the most beautiful, simplistic way.
We love your dress story! Tell us how you knew Martina Liana Style 1048 was the one…
When I started dress shopping I thought I wanted something sleek, mermaid style with an off-the-shoulder touch. I tried on dresses in San Diego, LA, and Phoenix, but I really felt empty doing it without my mother there. So, I flew to Indiana and set up two appointments at small, local shops for us to go to. My mom and I drove to Clay Terrace, a drive we’ve done many times throughout growing up. She insisted I try on the Martina Liana ballgown, and I didn’t fight her. I knew right away when I walked into the store that dress was one I was going to try on. I tried on a few other Martina’s that I thought were more “my style,” but 1048 was the unanimous winner. I felt like a princess. A little girl and her mom watched me try on the dress through the window, and you could see the excitement in the little girl to one day wear a dress like that. It was pure magic.
Tell us about your wedding planning and style…
We were originally going to get married in Italy on the Amalfi coast. We had it all planned out; the colors, the cake, the dress, everything. The blues and yellows, the lemon trees, the heavenly coast and the beach clubs were all in the plan. It was going to be the most beautiful, classic Italian wedding. With COVID, we slowly gave up that dream. We turned to local, as postponing wasn’t an option for us. We found a beautiful venue in Paradise Valley, Arizona. It was tucked right between the mountains and very close to our new home. We realized that our Italian wedding design no longer fit the bill, so I pivoted to a more boho-desert-chic vibe that serves Arizona well. Long, white orchids, blushes and pinks (of course, it was Valentine’s Day), and pampas grass. We decided on a small, outdoor Sunday brunch wedding, because although our venue was allowing more people, it was very important to us to keep our guests as safe as possible. It was truly the way it was always supposed to be. Perfect, small, intimate, and more love in one area than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. I really think it was a blessing in disguise.
