How To: The Perfect Cat Eye

Without a doubt, winged liner, feline flick or cat’s eye is the most-requested eye makeup for brides. There’s thousands of wedding makeup tutorials on how to achieve it. The feline shape elongates and lifts any eye into an alluring and sexy shape. Since around 50 BC when Cleopatra seduced every man with her exotic eyes, the feline flick has endured and re-invented itself over time. It works on every face shape and elongates the eye to a sexy cat-like feature which is why it’s also a screen sirens go to look- Think Kate Moss, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Bridgette Bardot. The feline flick is as mesmerizing as it is sophisticated and sexy. It’s the wedding makeup inspiration for those brides who dream of a glamorous, vintage wedding.

There are a few ways to achieve glamorous wedding makeup perfection. Applying a feline flick, however, is the glamour Holy Grail. MEOW!

Almond Shaped Eye Flick
1. Draw a fine line from the inner corner of your eye to the start of your lash line.
2. Now continue that fine line across the top of your lash line to approximately 2/3 the way across your eye.
3. Now, looking at your lower eye rim, follow the shape up towards the outside of your eye and place a tiny dot in the place you want your flick to end. This must be where the line on top meets the invisible lower lash line.
4. Draw a line from the very end of your eye to that small dot.
5. Then draw a line from where you stopped two thirds of the way across to the dot you placed on your outer eye. Fill in where necessary.

Hooded Eye Flick
Yes, you can create a feline flick with hooded eyes! Think Claudia Schiffer and Karlie Kloss! The easiest and least dramatic way to wear a flick is to apply a set of lashes- I like Ardell 110. Make sure they are cut to your eye size.
Then only on the very outside of your eye create a flick outwards! So easy! No mess on your lids from transferring liner and you get great defined shape and depth from the lashes. Just the very corner need be elongated and flicked! You can however fully line your lids this is extremely bold and almost theatrical- probably stay away from this look on your big day. Unless, of course, this is your signature style.

Now be sure to check these products out as they are my essentials for the perfect mesmerizing feline flick. Share in the comments below which are your favorites!

Gel
I love using a gel or a pen personally as a working makeup artist, time is always of the essence. I have more control with those two. My favorite gel by far is Inglot. Blackest of blacks and it performs incredibly with sensational staying power- you also have 36 modern and gorgeous eye enhancing colors to choose from if you decide you want to step away from black.
Tip: Gels do dry out faster so I leave the silver seal under the lid still half attached. Close the lid tight after every use. Apply it with their angle tip brush. This gel is a 5 star gel!

Liquid Eyeliner Pens
These pens are also my personal favorite. They give clear, crisp, precise lines and flicks and are very easy to control over the eye. They are a felt tip pen for your liner! Easy peasey! In my experience, the firmer the felt tip the more difficult it is to get a clean line. Look for ones that have medium firmness. The Stila Stay all day eyeliner pen lasts all day no smudging even on the oiliest of eyelids. Kat Von D Tattoo liner is another pen that delivers exactly what it says it will. Both pens are great for contact wearers. It’s what eye lining dreams are made of!

Pencils
This is for those who prefer a softer, slightly blurred finish on their lines. A pencil is the perfect partner in crime for a slightly edgier feel (ala Kate Moss style) a little rock-n-kohl so to speak. My go to is definitely the Makeup Forever Aqua XL eye pencil waterproof eyeliner. They have 26 to-die-for colors to choose from that stay put! You do need to work with these pencils quickly-they set fast. Another love is Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon. It has a plethora of fashion colors and its really opaque and delivers a smooth, pigmented line that can be smudged to soften your look. Peeper Perfection!
