Brickhouse-Bridal

Brickhouse Bridal has been open for 18 years, and owner Starla, began her career in the bridal industry in an unconventional way. When she was wedding dress shopping with her daughter, Melanie, their first stop was a high end bridal shop in Houston, TX where they were turned away for not having an appointment. When she asked a friend for a recommendation, she suggested a small and intimate bridal shop. That was when she found her diamond in the rough – Brickhouse Bridal. Through their dress-buying process – despite their love for the shop and positive experience – they learned the shop was going out of business. Starla went home to her husband and declared bridal was what she was meant to do! Mary Lee, the original owner stayed on board with Starla, and Melanie decided to join the Houston, TX bridal shop as well.  The rest, as they say, is history.

We asked Starla all about Brickhouse Bridal, and what’s happening in the bridal market:

What wedding dress trends are hot right now in Texas?

Our hot trends currently are slimmer silhouettes, and lightweight skirts. Brides are asking for gowns with straps, but strapless is still the most popular. Color lining under lace has always been a classic in our area.

What’s the number one thing your brides are asking for?

Brides are wanting the full bridal experience that they’ve always dreamed of. They want one-on-one attention from our bridal consultants and accommodations for their friends and family that accompany them.

How do you make the bride’s experience memorable?

We try to give them a boutique environment in a larger shop. We include 90 minute one-on-one bridal appointments and cater to the bride’s needs as much as possible. We have a great “keeping in touch” policy with our brides. We truly want to make the experience the best it can be from start to finish.

What’s the most surprising request you’ve ever gotten from a bride?

We once had a bride request a camouflage wedding gown.

What’s the best advice you would give a bride as she is shopping for her wedding dress?

We could go on and on about this! First thing we recommend to our brides is to only bring those who you most trust to the appointment and trying to limit it to 3 or 4. Be open to different styles and if you find your gown on the first visit be ready to buy it. You don’t have to keep looking at gowns after you have your dream dress, just like when you found the man you want to marry, you stopped looking. We had a bride try on more than 100 wedding gowns, which made finding her dream wedding gown miserable for her (and us too!).  Too much of a good thing can diminish the entire experience when it comes to finding your dream wedding gown!
