Beauty Resolutions for the New Year

We all have good intentions of following through on those New Year’s resolutions that we set ourselves on January 1 but according to the below statistics’ …ummm…less than half of us maintain them much past 6 months! Insert sad face here! So let’s look at these resolutions as smaller goals which will help you on your mission to a brighter, organised and glowing new you!

Here are my top 10 beauty resolutions to keep you right and tight for your upcoming wedding or pre wedding season. Some are so simple to do and best of all are FREE!

1. Sunscreen
It seems so simple but finding the right product for your skin and then applying it daily is at the top of my list. It’s my non-negotiable; this is the best anti-aging cream under $10 that money can buy! Even your computer can emit UV light which can contribute to “computer skin”. UV radiation causes collagen to break down at a higher rate than with just chronologic aging which causes wrinkles and premature aging.

2. Exfoliate Daily
Yes daily! I’ve said it before but it is one of my top tips for glowing, smooth and fresh looking skin. Using an exfoliator daily will also help reduce your pore size which helps makeup application a dream.

3. Sleep
This is almost self-explanatory. We have all seen the benefits of sleep or lack of. Sleep reduces stress, helps lose fat, reduce puffiness, helps the skin regenerate and restore vitality to our bodies. It really is the cure all. So put your devices down and siesta a little more often-the benefits are immediate!

4. Invest in Good Products
Invest in good products now you will find less need to go to expensive facial clinic appointments. Know your skin type and then don’t be sold on the latest fad products. Two of my favourite skincare ranges that are results based are Dr Lancer Rx or Kate Somerville products. Check them out!

5. Olaplex
If you don’t know anything about this product-get familiar! Olaplex revolutionised haircare. It prevents damage and repairs the hair. The at home treatment is amazing and it has single handedly saved my hair and nursed it back to its former glory! Once a week, leave these treatments in your hair overnight (I braid mine and sleep with a towel on my pillow) wash out the next morning and you will experience salon worthy locks that last!

6. Dermaroller
I’m a fan. Hands down! You can purchase this on amazon (3 roller heads with different sized needles) sounds painful but it’s similar to a dermabrasion- it just feels a slightly abrasive. This will help treat acne scarring, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, age spots, rosacea, pore size and stretch marks. It will also help with the efficacy of the uptake of any skincare used after rolling. Best at home device under $30.

7. Vitamin A/Retin A/Tretinoin
The only clinically proven facial cream that works by speeding up the skin’s metabolism to promote cellular turnover. It increases the production of elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid, a natural moisturizer in the skin. Prescribed by your Dr. this RX cream is inexpensive and is clinically proven to work.

8. Wash Your Makeup Off Properly Every Night
It takes your skin 28 days to recover from one night sleep with your make up on. It will also prevent normal skin shedding, slowing down the usual renewal process, resulting in uneven and dull textured skin. Dermatology studies have shown that after sleeping in your makeup for one full month and not cleansing it off the subject aged..wait for it..10 YEARS! Yes a decade! Wash off your makeup.

9. Destress
Taking the stress out of your life will be better than any facial. Tired, stressed skin looks aged and unhealthy. Healthy mind, healthy skin. Stress releases cortisol, which can throw off the other hormones in your body and cause breakouts on your face or body. Stress can cause the skin to flare up with conditions like Rosacea, eczema, vitiligo. Many skin disorders take their roots from or place their roots in the psyche, so put that phone down, take a walk or step away from that computer.

10. More You Time
Set aside some time to do the things you really enjoy. This time should be guilt free and focused on you re-centering yourself. Whether you are taking the time out to do any of the above mentioned or booking a massage or even taking a course you’ve always wanted to do-there is no better investment than yourself and the rewards are greater than you think! What a great way to start the New Year!
